Document 4/8/21 (N.B. Chrs., no. 17)

Description
An agreement is formed between the convent of North Berwick Priory and the convent of Loch Leven Priory concerning the teinds of the earldom of Fife, its rents, revenues, profits and services and concerning the second teinds of crops, flour, available malt and all general grain, cheese and butter which pertain to their house. The nobleman, Malcolm (II), earl of Fife, patron of both houses, intervened and made a friendly agreement between them, which both parts accepted voluntarily whereby the prioress and nuns shall pay to the abbot of Loch Leven or one of their messengers 20 [marks/pennies] good sterling each year at North Berwick, half at the feast of St Andrews and half at the Nativity of St John the Baptist. If the money should not be paid at the determined place or time, they shall pay a penalty of 1 mark to the gatekeeper of Loch Leven to be distributed to the poor beggars at the door of the monastery.
