Description
Adam of Fans, son the late Richard of Fans, for the salvation of his soul and all of his ancestors and successors, has given and granted and by this his present charter established to Kelso Abbey in free, pure and perpetual alms, that whole land in Mellerstain which David of Graham, his uncle, had and held of him by the donation of the late, Richard of Fans, his father, namely two tofts in Mellerstain, one of which belonged to Adam, and several dispersed portions of land in Whitefield and Kingseat and in the territory lying along the River Eden near the villa of his domain. Furthermore, he grants to the monks the said land which David of Graham held and discharged to them in perpetuity with all its pertinents including the facilities of the villae of Mellerstain and Fans, free and quit from every service, custom, exaction, and demand.
