Description
An agreement is formed between Robert, son of Warnebald, and Richenda, his spouse, on one side, and the abbot and convent of Arbroath, on the other, whereby Robert and Richenda have demitted at feuferme to the said abbot and convent, certain lands in the parish of Conveth (Laurencekirk, KCD), namely, the land of the lordship of Conveth and the land of ‘Halletun’ and the land called Scotston, having and holding in perpetuity by their right bounds and with their just pertinents and easements, as King William, of good memory, gave and established to Agatha the mother [of Richenda], as his charter bears witness, for an annual render to Robert and Richenda of 100s., half at Pentecost and half at Martinmas. And after the death of Richenda, for an annual render at Pentecost to her nearest heirs who are born in (?) the said lands and who are distinguishable, 20s for all service and secular demands, and responding for the service of the lord king and the aids pertaining to the said lands. And let it be known that an oxgang next to the Mill of Conveth (KCD) was given to the sacrist of Arbroath in alms for the provision of the lighting of the altar of St Mary, and a certain land that was Hugh son of Waltheof’s next to Scotston by the grant and consent of the lord abbot and convent, was given by the said Robert and Richenda to Roger Wyrfauk, responding for the forinsec of the lord king, and multure, and the works of the mill as pertains to a half davoch.
