Description
Bernard son of Brian has granted and by this charter established to Kelso Abbey one ploughgate of land which they hold in the villa of Hadden (ROX) and had before he had the villa, in perpetual alms, by the same marches which they held it before he came to Hadden and with all facilities. Additionally, he gave to them and established by this his charter a certain toft in perpetual alms in his villa of Hadden near their land, in order that all their land in the _villa_ will be free from every service and from every aid, and from every other custom will every facility following only tenure and money. He gave and granted this land to them in perpetual alms for the salvation of his soul and for the salvation of his relatives and friends and for the salvation of his lord, King William, and William’s ancestors and successors, free and quit from every custom and service.
