- Description
- Robert of Kent and Ralph, his father, by the interposition of faith, have affirmed to Kelso Abbey that if they wish to give pasture of Innerwick (ELO) at ferme to anyone at anytime they will give it to them. If Melrose Abbey or someone else should produce a charter which states that he gave the land to them at ferme, Robert wishes all people to know that the charter was procured against his confidence by deception and therefore the charter has no strength or effectiveness. He states that he is not able to give a charter of this kind against Kelso, nor is Melrose able to bring claim through the use of such a charter. He wishes and affirms by his present charter to Kelso Abbey the said pasture to be held from him and his heirs just as the chirograph testifies concerning that which is made between him and them and just as he and his father have declared on oath.
