Document 3/254/1 (Newb. Reg., no. 7 )

Description
Peter of Graham has granted, given, and by this his charter established, to Newbattle Abbey for the welfare of his lord King William, and for the souls of himself and his wife Geva (?), and for the welfare of his sons, in perpetual alms, the land of ‘Balnebucth’ (MLO), free and quit from all services, assises and gelds and all secular exaction.
Firm date
18 February 1175 X 20 June 1203
Dating Notes
Not in papal confirmation of Alexander III (_Newbattle Reg._, C.O., no. 28) × papal confirmation of Innocent III (_Newbattle Reg._, no. 223). Note also that Alexander (de St Martin?) is sheriff (of Edinburgh), suggesting perhaps an date earlier in this range.
