- William de Lizars, lord of Gorton, has granted and by this his charter established the donation made by his father, of a certain portion of a peatary in the territory of Gorton (MLO) to Newbattle Abbey, by its right bounds, which his father assigned to the monks in the presence of many pledges, free and quit from secular exaction and demand as contained in his father’s charter. In augmentation of his father’s donation, he has also given and granted and by this his charter established to the said monks, two acres of land next to the southern road which leads to the said peatary, which extends to ‘Wytteriggemyre’ with pasture for 12 cows, and one man resident on the said land to look after digging and drying their peats. He also grants the liberty to drag the peats out of their peatary and dry them on his land without any impediment. These donations are in pure and perpetual alms.
