Description
Patrick of Ryedale has given and by this his present charter established to Melrose Abbey, for the salvation of his lord, William, king of Scotland, and for the souls of all his ancestors and successors, and for the soul of himself and for the souls of all his ancestors and all his relatives and his heirs, in pure and perpetual alms, that part of the land which they hold in the territory of Whitton (ROX), by stated bounds, free, unbound and quit from all aids, payments, examinations, gelds, assizes, scotage, cornage, and from all service, custom, and exaction. He and his heirs will support and warrant them against all him from all claim and all forinsec service and all other things which they may be able to extract.
