Document 3/630/1 (Arb. Lib., no. 140)
- Description
- Gilbert Stute, burgess of Aberdeen, and Emma, his spouse, for the love of God and the Virgin Mary and St Thomas the Martyr, have made the abbot and convent of Arbroath their heirs of all their land which they have in the burgh of Aberdeen, from the bridge by which one may pass over from the street of the ash-trees (vico fraxini) to the church of St Nicholas, which is called ‘Kirkebrig’ and which is situated between the two burns which divide it from the aforesaid bridge to the house that was Henry the miller’s.
- Firm date
- 1215 X 1249
- Dating Notes
- The only thing whatsoever to date this charter on is its placement in the printed version of the _Arbroath Liber_ under the ‘Alex. Reg.’ section. There is more evidence for the second half of the thirteenth century in terms of the religious practices of the burgesses of Aberdeen. This may be the land in the Kirkgate leased by Abbot Bernard, 1310×28 (_Arb. Lib._, 269).
