Description
Alexander, Steward of Scotland, has granted and made firm by his present document to the Abbot and convent of Paisley, that they should have, hold and possess hereditarily that portion of land that Adam, called Carpenter, held of him and his antecessor Walter of good memory in Auldingliston (Ingliston, MLO), (and) sold and made firm by his charter in perpetuity, with all pertinents, liberties and easements, without any withholding, as the charter of the aforesaid Adam to the same Abbot and convent concerning this more fully drawn up in all things expresses and bears witness; if, however, after his death, the heirs of the aforesaid Adam should contest or refuse or should not be able to render to (Alexander) and his heirs one mark annually in return for the residue of the aforementioned land towards the east, that (Adam) held back for himself and his heirs, and which the aforesaid heirs ought to hold of (Alexander), according to the terms of (Adam’s) charter, the residue of the aforesaid land should remain to the aforesaid Abbot and convent in perpetuity; to have and to hold in free and perpetual alms, of him and his heirs with one mark to be paid to him annually at two terms of the year, namely, half at Pentecost and the other half at the feat of St Martin, in return for all services, customs, exactions and demands.
