Document 2/64/32 (Arb. Lib., no. 329)
- Description
- Memorandum that in the year 1312, lord Bernard, abbot of Arbroath, granted and consigned to lord David, bishop of Moray, all the garbal teinds belonging to the monks’ church of Inverness (INV) until the completion of two years. This is to be fully paid, and completely satisfied, for fifty marks of sterling, which the bishop paid to the abbot by hands, and which the abbot admits to have received so that it could be converted for the use and utilization of his monastery. Nevertheless, when the two years have been completed, the garbal teinds of the church, with all its rights, should be freely given back to ownership of the monastery, and to the free reign of the abbot and convent, with no objection, because the bishop promised in good faith to inviolably observe [the agreement]. Additional specifications are made if by chance the agreement is hindered by war, etc.
