Description
Memorandum which states that since the abbot and convent of Kelso had received in times of peace ten pounds and eight shillings for a certain portion of the teinds belongs to the church of Mow (ROX) from the abbot and convent of Melrose, by reason of an agreement formerly entered between them, and since the render of the sum of money ceased on the account of the war, which at length was held by in consideration of the devastation of the country, and additionally because of the great deterioration of the state of the monastery of Melrose, for the good of peace and common usefulness, the abbot and convent of Kelso unanimously relaxed to the abbot and convent of Melrose from the feast of Pentecost in 1302, until the completion of six years, nine marks and eight shillings of the aforesaid sum. The abbot and convent of Melrose will render to the abbot and convent of Kelso, in their monastery from the feast of Pentecost until the end of six years, six marks for the said portion of the teinds at two times of the year, viz.: half at the feast of St Marin in winter and the other half at Pentecost nearest following, with the first payment beginning at the feast of St Martin in 1302. Moreover, the shepherds and servants of the monks, who hold of the dominion of the abbot and convent of Melrose within the parish of Mow will render petty teinds to the mother church of Mow.
