Description
AD 1296, at Aberdeen, on 17 July, there being present Walter de Beauchamp and John Tregotz, knights, John of Droxford and John Banstead, William of Melton, Robert of Cottingham, John of Winchester, and Geoffrey of Stokes, clerks, as witnesses, the notary also being present, the noble lords Duncan of Frendraught, Patrick of Berkeley, Hugh de la Haye, Reginald le Chen, John son of Herbert of Maxwell, John lord of Maxwell, William de Mohaut, knights, the lord Harvey of Crambeth, dean of Dunkeld, John son of Ranulf of Pitscottie, Robert of Wauchope, Robert the Falconer, William of Innes, and the burgesses and community of the city of Aberdeen, coming into the trust and obedience of the king of England, annulled the alliances, contracts, agreements, and pacts that were at any time entered into with the king of the French against the king of England in their name; and having taken the holy gospels and kissed them, they performed fealty to the lord king of England; and upon their fealty performed in this way, they made their letters patent, sealed with their pendant seals.
