Description
The king to John de Sandale, chamberlain of Scotland. Having appointed Aymer de Valence his lieutenant and captain of the forces at Berwick, to put down Robert Bruce, earl of Carrick, he commands that their pay run from the date when the horses of Aymer and his men are valued by the chamberlain, and meanwhile he shall receive from the wardrobe on account £200, Henry Gray 50 marks, William le Latimer, £50, William de la Zouche, 20 marks, Aymer de la Zouche, £10, Richard Lovell, 10 marks, and Henry de Beaumont, 50 marks. To be afterwards deducted from their pay. Similar writ for Henry de Percy, lieutenant and captain at Carlisle, 100 marks; Robert Clifford, £100, Robert Felton, 20 marks, John de St John, 50 marks, Thomas Paynel, £10.
