- King William gave the church of St Cyrus of Ecclesgreig to St Andrews Priory, 1172×1174, after the death of Richard, clerk of the liverance, who was then _persona_ of the church (1/6/117). Richard, bishop of St Andrews, likewise gave the same church with the lands of the abbacy, 1172 × 1178 (2/10/84). King William again gave the church of Ecclesgreig with the land of the abbacy and the chapel of St Regulus (presumably after the death of the persona), 1189 × 1195 (1/6/304; 1/6/323). This memorandum suggests that the position of prior (the title which was used by the head of the céli Dé chapter at Brechin) was still in existence in the 1230s, although whether there was an active religious community at that time is uncertain.
