After the death of Earl Duncan II of Fife. John of Methil witnesses a charter of Alexander of Seton (<em>Dunf. Reg.</em>, no. 177) dating to probably the 1220s, as well as charter of Adam of Stawell, lord of Balmerino, from around the same time (<em>St A. Lib.</em>, 271-2).
