Notes
Dimensions: 1 5/8 in. diameter. SW I, p.55. Note: Stevenson and Wood catalogue three burgh seals for Berwick. This is the third, but it seems, in fact, the earliest, in use by 1235-6. The other seals are (1) from a matrix of 1292 struck for Edward I of England and (2) a double-sided seal in use by 1330 and in conjunction with a counterseal (not noted by Stevenson and Wood; cf. Laing, _Supplemental descriptive catalogue_, no.1203).
