Description
Robert, king of Scots, to his justiciars, sheriffs, grieves, and their baillies and other ministers and his faithful, notifying that he has granted to Melrose abbey all their lands in the earldom of Carrick that they have by gift of his predecessors the earls of Carrick in pure and perpetual alms, as well as Mauchline (AYR) that they have from the stewards of Scotland, free and quit from all prises, captions, carriages, marts, and other tallages, from anyone except by his special licence. He firmly prohibits anyone from injuring the religious or their lands on pain of his full forfeiture.
