1298 COLDINGHAM EXTENT CONTINUED: PAXTON: William of Paxton, Hugh of the same, and John of Chisholm, portionars, held the toun of Paxton (BWK) in chief from the Lord Prior, paying the lord prior annually 66s 8d and performing 60 works in autumn at the manor of Fishwick. And the two parts that were held by William and Hugh are forfeited, which the Prior has by gift of the lord King. Two chief residences, with were William's and Hugh's, with 8 x 20 (160) acres, which were the same William's and Hugh's, are worth 16 marks. There is no meadow or pasture. There is no mill. There are four fisheries, of which two parts are the Prior's, which are worth 27 marks per year. There are ten husbandmen in the Prior's two parts, of whom each holds one toft and 15 acres of land, and that they hold is surveyed and demitted with demesnes. FREEHOLDERS: And there is a half ploughgate of land which is William of Paxton's and is worth yearly 33s 4d. John of Chisholm holds one residence and 80 acres of land, and renders a third of the works at the manor of Fishwick as above. And the same William has five husbandmen under him, each of whom holds one toft and 15 acres of land, and each pays him 6 shillings. Fishing of the same, namely per year, 15 marks, owing homage and suit. Sum 31 pounds, 8 shillings, 10 and a half pence, with fisheries.
