Pope Innocent III writes to the prior and convent of Paisley, taking the monastery of St James of Paisley with its persons and everything justly and reasonably possessed into his protection and he has established by apostolic authority, the churches of Cathcart (LAN), Rutherglen (LAN), Carmunnock (LAN), Kilbarchan (RNF), Mearns (RNF) and Pollock (LAN), with lands, teinds and everything belonging to those churches just as Jocelin, bishop of Glasgow conferred for their own uses and established by his charter. No one may promulgate a sentence of excommunication or suspension against them or their vicars, or sentences of interdict against their churches or chapels. In addition, he prohibits any bishop, archdeacon, dean or their officials from making burdens upon the monastery or any of its churches in terms of entertainment or exactions, except as stated in the Lateran council. No man is permitted to disturb the personae or ministers of the churches or their goods, or the monastery itself, or infringe or otherwise go against this protection.
