Pope Alexander IV, moved by the pleas of the prior and chapter of St Andrews, writes to the abbots of Jedburgh and Dryburgh commanding them to restore to the right and ownership of St Andrews those goods which they find to have been alienated or disposed of, compelling those who resist by ecclesiastical censure, without appeal. If the witnesses named have withdrawn out of favour, hatred or fear, they shall compel them by the same censure, without appeal, to provide testimony of the truth.
