Henry, lord of Wiston, the knight, following an inspection of the charters of his predecessors, which he made through the aid of distinguished men, acknowledges that the advowson of the church of Wiston (LAN) belongs to Kelso Abbey. He grants and confirms in perpetuity the said advowson and right of presentation at the said church or vicarage, to Kelso Abbey and its representatives, with the lands, teinds, possessions and liberties belonging to it. If it happens that, God forbid, he or any of his assigns or successors may have presumed to contradict the aforesaid, penalties are specified, including a fine of 10 pounds payable to fabric of the church of Glasgow. He obliges himself, his heirs and assignees and all their goods, movable and immovable, to the will and jurisdiction of the lord bishop of Glasgow and his officials, whoever they may be at the time, in order that he, his heirs and assignees, by sentence of excommunication, may be compelled.
