- Adam son of Udard has given, and by this his charter established, to Newbattle Abbey in pure and perpetual alms for the increase of the alms that Oliver his uncle conferred on them in the territory of Hailes (ELO), a certain piece of land next to the land they have by gift of Oliver on the north side, by stated bounds, in pure and perpetual alms.
