Alicia of ‘By’, spouse of the late William of Chirnside, burgess of Berwick, in her legal widowhood, has quitclaimed to Soutra Hospital all right that she had in a certain piece of land which she and William of Chirnside gave and granted at feuferme to Walter of Soutra, burgess of Berwick, by the marches which lay in the common lane of the late John Frowe and the late Robert of By, between the land of Robert Frowe on one side, and her land on the other. To hold in free, pure and perpetual alms as the charter of the said Walter of Soutra bears witness. She has subjected herself to the archdeacon of Lothian or his official. Sealed by the abbot of Holyrood, who was the commissioner in the case brought between the said brethren and herself concerning the said lands, who at her petition sealed this script, and by Sir John, marischal of Keith.
