The king commands Master John of Weston, chamberlain of Scotland, out of the money and victuals in his hands, and those which he is about to send to Berwick-on-Tweed, to pay Edmund of Hastings, the warden, as much as he can for the arrears of the garrison, so that the safety of the place be assured.
On the day before, the king writes to Edmund of Hastings acknowledging his letter by the bearer of this reply, and telling him that his request for supplies and money has been attended to.
