Edward, king of England, lord of Ireland and duke of Aquitaine, writes to R., bishop of Bath and Wells, his chancellor. He has sent to the bishop letters, which his sworn-man Brian fitz Alan transmitted to him, concerning his letters patent appointing Master William of Dumfries chancellor of the realm of Scotland. On account of which he enjoins and commands that his letters ought to be enforced at once, and that the said Brian shall deliver him to the said office.
