- Description
- Charter of King David II, with the advice of council, has given his beloved and faithful 'servitor' Adam Torrie, burgess of Edinburgh, warden of the office of counting of the whole kingdom, appointed hereto by himself and his council, and to James Mullekin of Florence mintmaster, and to the rest of the workmen and servants appointed to the said office; he acquits of all challenges, supports, duties or contributions whatsoever either upon their lands, tenements, goods moveable or chattel or wares to set or appointed excepting only the contribution to be set on them for the payment of ransom and delivery, and that the said James and other officers shall stand at the decision of Adam their master in all pleas and complaints, except the plea of free holding and his crown, and that they shall not be put on assise juries or recognitions, and give perhaps the said James and his servants will or shall by themselves or with the commonality of our said kingdom grant and give taxations, it is the king's will that the said support or contributions be input and taken up by the said warden and that he also be taxed in the supports, yet so that no other person shall meddle in any form in the said contributions but only the warden.
