Document 1/54/221 (RRS, vi, no. 205)

Description
David, king of Scots, after inspecting the charters of the abbot and convent of Lindores granted by his predecessors the kings of Scots, he understood Lindores abbey and all its lands and possessions to be under the patronage and royal majesty of the kings of Scotland. He has taken them under his protection, patronage, jurisdiction and royal majesty without any intermediary, despite that they were founded by David, brother of William, king of Scots. Although he has transferred and granted by charter his land of the Garioch (ABD) to his relative Thomas, earl of Mar, it is not his intention to transfer the abbey or its lands and possessions to the earl of Mar. He prohibits the earl of Mar from molesting the monks or their men or possessions.
