David, king of Scots, to his officers, noting that Arbroath abbey, his beloved and faithful chaplains, hold their lands in pure and perpetual alms in his kingdom in free regality, by his progenitors the kings of Scots' infeftments, and that the abbey and their lands and men are exempt from prises, tallages, collections, etc., he therefore orders his officers not to trouble them regarding tallages. Yet, if necessity compels it, the king reserves the right to withdraw such exemptions in the future.
