Document 1/54/627 A (RMS, i, no. 347)

Description
David, king of Scots, through the inspection of charters and letters of his progenitors the kings of Scotland, it is clear that Holyrood abbey had and was accustomed to have from its foundation the tenth part of all the profits of escheats and fines from all his pleas, whether chamberlain, justiciar, sheriff or burgh, falling between the Avon and Cockburnspath (i.e., in ELO, MLO, WLO); the king thus gives the said profits within the said bounds, in pure and perpetual alms, as the said charters and letters attest. And he instructs his chamberlain, justiciars, sheriffs and burgh grieves to make the said payments.
