Description
Saer de Quincy, earl of Winchester, has given, and established by his charter, to Newbattle Abbey in pure and perpetual alms, and in augmentation of the alms, which his father Robert gave in the territory of Tranent (ELO), that is, half of the marsh as far as the burn of ‘Wygtrig’, which is near their field (culture), and a charcoal pit (carbonaria) and quarry, and in ebb and tide of the sea. He prohibits his men from having common [easements?] within the grange of Preston whether in pasture, charcoal pits or quarries, unless by wish of the monks.
