Pope Alexander III writes to Bishops Herbert of Glasgow, Christian of Whithorn, the bishop of St Andrews, and Bishops M. of Dunblane, Gregory of Dunkeld, T. of Brechin, Edward of Aberdeen, the bishop of Moray, and Bishops S. of Ross and Andrews of Caithness. The pope reports that he has affectionately received Archbishop Roger of York, their metropolitan, who came to the pope out of consideration of devotion. Alexander commands the bishops to show him that obedience due by metropolitan right. If they refuse, the pope will hold as ratified the sentence which Roger would promulgate canonically against them.
