Description
John of Stevenston, son of Archibald of Gullane, with the consent and will of John his heir, has given and quitclaimed to the monks of Durham at Coldingham the ploughgate of land in the territory of Swinton that Prior Bertram and the convent of the church of Durham gave to Sir William of Gullane, his brother, in return for the quitclaim of the villa of Greater Lumsdaine, and which the said William, his brother and antecessor, held of the said prior and convent by the charter of the Chapter of Durham. John has resigned by rod and staff in the hand of the lord Anketin, prior of Coldingham, in the full chapter of the monks of Coldingham in the prior's court at Ayton, the charter of the chapter of Durham and the confirmation of King William, which he himself had in his possession in respect of the said lands.
