In [AD 1296, the 9th indiction], on the fourth day of August, at Kincardine in Mearns; there being present [the lords Thomas Bicknor and John Merk, knights, William of Melton, Robert of Cottingham, and Geoffrey of Stokes, clerks,] and the notary; Ralph of Kinnaird came to the faith and will of the king of England; and renounced any alliances etc. entered into with the king of the French; and performed fealty to the king of England, etc.
