William Balliol, rector of Kirkpatrick

Biography
son of Henry (d.1246); younger brother of Guy (d.1265) and Alexander (d.a.1311). William appears in 1288 as lieutenant, clerk and deputy of Alexander de Balliol of Cavers. He was likely the same mentioned in 1296 as ‘rector of Kirkpatrick’ who attached his seal to the Ragman Roll in July of that year at Montrose and went into Edward I’s peace with other Scottish nobles. A. Beam, The Balliol Dynasty, 278. He does not appear after 1296 and the William de Balliol appearing in the Melrose charters as Alexander's 'brother' may in fact be a mistake for Alexander's son.
