Description
David, king of Scots, has given William, earl of Sutherland, and Margaret Bruce, his beloved sister, his thanage of Downie (ANG) in free marriage, and their lawfully procreated heirs, in feu and heritage, in free barony, with pit and gallows, sake and soke, team and toll, and infangenthef, with mills and multures, bondi and bondages, neyfs and their offspring, with the homages and services of the freeholders of the barony; he also grants them his thanage of Kincardine (KCD) with castle or manor and park, his thanage of Fettercairn (KCD) and his thanage of Aberluthnott (KCD), in free marriage, in feu and heritage, in free baronies, in the same way that the thanage of Downie is held, and the advowsons or right of patronage of the churches in the said baronies. He has also granted them half of his thanages of Formartine and Kintore (ABD), to them and their lawful male heirs, with multures, mills, bondi and bondages, neyfs and their offspring. He also wills that if they have no legitimate male heirs, the lands will revert to the crown, saving the right which Matilda (Maud) Bruce, his sister, has by right in half of the thanages of Formartine and Kintore by virtue of his grant to her, if she outlives her sister Margaret.
