David, king of Scots, noting that his father Robert, king of Scots, gave his burgesses of Dundee a place to build their tolbooth with gaol, which was assigned by the late Alexander Fraser, knight, then chamberlain of Scotland, namely between the mill lade on the west and the mercat cross on the east, measuring 80 feet by 40 feet; the king now augments this with a place six feet by 80 feet adjacent to the existing place, in order to construct buildings for their use; holding free and quit of all exaction.
