Pope Adrian IV writes to Bishops H[erbert] of Glasgow, Christian of Whithorn, R[obert] of St Andrews, Laurence of Dunblane, G[regory] of Dunkeld, T. of Brechin, Geoffrey [sic for Edward] of Aberdeen, W[illiam] of Moray, S[imon] of Ross, and A[ndrew] of Caithness, reporting that he has affectionately received Archbishop Roger of York, their metropolitan, and has granted him the pallium. He is returning to his church with the grace of the apostolic see and as the bearer of his letter, the pope commands the bishops to show him due obedience. If they refuse, the pope will hold as ratified the sentence which Roger would promulgate canonically against them.
