Document 2/143/141 (Theiner, no. 145)

Description
Pope Innocent IV, at the example of Lucius, Eugene, Adrian, Alexander, Lucius, Gregory, Innocent and Honorius, his predecessors, Roman pontiffs, directs that the prebends of the céli De, which belonged to Gilbert, céli De, are to be adjudged to the prior and chapter of St Andrews. The case concerning this had been delegated to the priors of Kirkham and St Oswald, who had promulgated a sentence of excommunication against the said céli De. The abbot of Dunfermline, papal chaplain, and the treasurer of Dunkeld according to a papal mandate, had established this sentence. The pope then granted a hearing to Richard, called Noffertuno, canon of the church and procurator of the prior and chapter, and to Master Richard Vairement, céli De of the same city concerning this, before J[ohn], cardinal-priest of S. Lorenzo in Lucina. The said cardinal bestowed the said prebends upon the prior and chapter and transferred all right to them, and Master Richard resigned his prebend before the said John. He includes here a testimony by the said John, cardinal-priest, concerning his sentence which was made at Genoa, 29 May 1251 being present Elias, canon of Brechin, Master Andrew de Mons, priest, Master Godfrey, archpriest of ‘Setii’ and Theobald, his clerks, and Octone de Alatri and Colin, his serviens, which sentence Leonard, legal clerk and notary, has made public. The pope then established this sentence. The dean of Dunkeld is appointed conservator.
