Biography
Malcolm was the eldest son of Henry, earl of Huntingdon and Northumberland (d. 1152), and his wife, Ada de Warenne (d. 1178), and grandson of David I (d. 1153). He had two brothers, William (d. 1214) and David (d. 1219) and three sisters, Margaret, Ada and Matilda. Malcolm was born between 23 April and 24 May 1141 and upon his father's death on 12/13 June 1152, he became heir to King David. He succeeded to the throne on 24 May 1153. He was knighted by Henry II of England at Périgueux around 30 June 1159, returning to Scotland in early 1160. He founded Coupar Angus Abbey and raised Scone Priory to an abbey. Malcolm died at Jedburgh on 9 December 1165 and was buried at Dunfermline Abbey. He was succeeded by his brother, William I. http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/17860
