Robert of London (d.1225)

Biography
A. Taylor, 'Robert de Londres, Illegitimate Son of William, king of Scots, c.1170-1225', Haskins Society Journal, 19 (2007), 99-119: Robert was the illegitimate son of King William I of Scotland, and was probably born in the early 1170s as he begins to appear in royal documents until after 1185. He was thus brother to King Alexander (d.1249) and at least three half-sisters, fathered illegitimately by King William: Isabella, Ada and Margaret. Robert's mother was of the 'of London' family, which included Thomas and Robert, and which held lands in Roxburghshire. She may have been the wife of John, son of Ness of Waughton, who adpoted the 'of London' surname and died before 1190. John of London was known to have had a son, John of Moray, who appears in Robert's household. Robert was given estates in Fife and Clydesdale. He was never known to have married or produced offspring and was certainly dead by 23 January 1226, having probably died by 12 November 1225.
