David I, king of Scots (d.1153)

Biography
David I, king of Scots, sixth and youngest son of King Malcolm [Mael Coluim] III (d.1093) and his wife Margaret (d.1093). Born c.1085. Married Maud de Senlis (d.1131) in 1113, a widow ten years his senior, the daughter of Waltheof, earl of Northumbria (d. 1076) and his wife, Judith, a niece of William the Conqueror. After the death of his brother, Alexander I, on 23 April 1124, David was inaugurated as king of Scots. David and Maud had only one son who survived into adulthood, Henry, earl of Northumberland, who predeceased his father in 1152. David died on 24 May 1153 at Carlisle and was buried at Dunfermline Abbey. G.W.S. Barrow, 'David I', ODNB, xv, 285-88; [http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/49353]
