Walter Comyn, earl of Menteith (d.1258)

Biography
Walter Comyn was the second known son of William Comyn (d.1233) and first wife. Walter had three brothers: Richard (d. 1244×9), David (who married Isabel de Valognes), and William, a clerk, and one sister, Jean (who married William of Ross, 2nd earl of Ross). He also had three half-brothers from his father's second marriage to Marjory of Buchan: Alexander Comyn, earl of Buchan (d.1289) (who married Elizabeth de Quincy), William and Fergus, and three half-sisters, Idonea (who married Gilbert de la Hay), Agnes (who married Philip Meldrum), and Elizabeth (who married William, earl of Mar). Walter Comyn became earl of Menteith on his marriage to Isabella, daughter and heir of Maurice, earl of Menteith, between 30 June 1233 and 9 January 1234. Between 1229 and 1234 Walter was given the lordship of Badenoch by Alexander II and around 1238 founded the Augustinian prior of Inchmahome, on the Lake of Menteith. He died in late October or early November 1258 after falling from his horse. A. Young, 'Walter Comyn, earl of Menteith', ODNB, xii, 908-10; [http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/6049]
